NCDC and State Team Pay Advocacy Visit to CMD Ahead of Cholera Laboratory Diagnosis Training At ASH
As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria's public health response to cholera outbreaks, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), in collaboration with the State Team, paid an advocacy visit to the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Asaba Specialist Hospital ahead of the training of healthcare workers on Cholera Laboratory Diagnosis Using Culture Methods.The delegation was warmly received by the CMD and members of the hospital management. During the meeting, the team briefed the management on the purpose of their visit and the objectives of the forthcoming training programme.
The training is designed to strengthen cholera laboratory testing and response activities by equipping healthcare professionals with the knowledge and practical skills required for early detection, accurate laboratory diagnosis using culture methods, effective data management, timely laboratory confirmation of cholera cases, and prompt public health response in line with national disease surveillance and control strategies.
The team emphasized that building the capacity of healthcare workers is essential for improving the quality of laboratory services, enhancing disease surveillance, reducing the spread of cholera, and ensuring better patient outcomes through timely and evidence-based interventions.
